Mthaniya was a significant figure in Zulu history, known as the wife of King Jama kaNdaba. She was from the Sibiya clan and became the mother of Senzangakhona, the future king. Her marriage to Jama was facilitated by their daughter, Mkabayi, who sought to secure an heir for her aging father. Mthaniya’s role was crucial in establishing the royal lineage that would lead to the reign of Shaka Zulu.

His reign has faced legal challenges from other branches of the royal family but continues with the support of millions of Zulu people.
