After Dingane’s defeat and subsequent flight, his half-brother Mpande ascended to the throne as the next king of the Zulu Kingdom. King Shaka’s death was orchestrated by his half-brother Dingane, who, along with their other brother Umhlangana and Shaka’s bodyguard Mbopa, conspired to assassinate him. The assassination took place in 1828, marking a significant shift in the leadership of the Zulu Kingdom as Dingane ascended to the throne following Shaka’s death.
