Rev. Nicholas Bhekinkosi Hepworth Bhengu was born on September 5, 1909 at Entumeni, KwaZulu-Natal. Known as “Manotsha”, “Papakho”, “uMkhulu” or “uKhehla” by his converts, he was the Founder of the Africa Back to God Crusade in the 1950s. Bhengu was an evangelist, a teacher of the word, and a pastor.
Served as Acting Judge for KwaZulu-Natal High Courts (Durban and Pietermaritzburg) in 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2017. Board member at Phumelela Gaming & Leisure Limited, serving on Audit, Remuneration, and Industry Specific committees. Holds Bachelor of Procurement Law (B Proc) and LLB. Fled Swaziland after a cultural conflict and established the Ngcolosi tribe. His followers settled in Ntunjambili near Greytown in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, eventually spreading to Durban and the Umngeni River area near Inanda. Rewarded with 100 cattle for his exceptional care, he used part of this wealth to pay lobola for a Mkhize wife, continuing the royal bloodline. His reign was marked by conflict with the Zulu king, leading to his death when warriors threw him into the Thukela River.
