Lecheko surname originate from Makhoakhoa at Butha-Buthe, Lesotho. Lecheko comes from the verb Cheka meaning to dig, so Lecheko means ‘someone who digs’. Makhoakhoa used to cultivate the soil, planting crops, especially vegitables such as pumpkins,hence in their praise they tak about pumkins (maphutse le meraka)
