Ukuphindela emanxiweni aseManzalathi

Ngokubona ukuthi ayikho eyayigoba uphondo ezinhlangothini zombili, uFaku owayelibambabukhosi wathatha isinqumo sokuphindela emanxiweni amadala akwaNtunjambili eManzalathi nengxenye eyayesekela uHlangabeza. AMandlalathi ngumfudlana ongenela oThukela. Wakhukhula-ke uFaku nezinkomo zonke kanye nengxenye enkulu yesizwe eyayeseka uHlangabeza. EMngeni kwasala abantu abambalwa ababesekela uNdlokolo.

Isinqumo sikaTheophilus Shepstone [Somtsewu]

Umbango woqhekeko esizweni wakhula kanjalo kwagcinwa kumangalelwene kuTheophilus Shepstone owayenguNobhala weZindaba zaBantu abamnyama kuKoloni yaseNatali. Zombili izingxenye zabizelwa eMgungundlovu (Phithamarizbheki).

Isinqumo sikaTheophilus Shepstone sagcina sivune ingxenye kaNdlokolo kwazise uShepstone walithatha njengenhlekisa iphuzu lenxele nokungabusi kwalo umuzi. Wanquma ukuthi lonke ifa maliphindele eMngeni kuNdlokolo.

Wagcizelela ukuthi kufanele kugxilwe ekutheni uNdlokolo wayezalwa iyiphi inkosikazi kaNkungu, ukuthi wayelinxele kwakungasho lutho. UTheophilus Shepstone wagcina ngokuthi ukuba uHlangabeza wayeyintombazane izinkomo zakhe nxa egana zazizodliwa nguFaku ngoba unina wayelotsholwe ngezinkomo zakwabo.

Ngakbo-ke isinqumo sikaTheophilus Shepstone asizange sisho lutho ngoba isizwe sanda kakhulu eManzalathi endaweni eyayilele wonke amakhosi akwaNgcolosi. Kuyacaca-ke ukuthi lonke uzalo lukaMepho kaNgwane kaLamula, lwabuyela ngakuHlangabeza lwesaba inxele. Ozalweni ngakuNdlokolo baba babili: uMambedu indoda umntanenkosi noZithoya kaMepho.

Ukufa kukaNdlokolo

uNdlokolo owashona mhla Zlyl 19 kuNhlolanja 1915 isibhedukile iMpi yaMazwe oMhlaba [1914-1918]. Indlalifa yakhe kwakungu Vika yena owazala uDinabakubo ozala inkosi uBhekisisa Felix obusa isizwe esincikene nesaseMaphephetheni nesakwaNgcobo eThekwini hhayi kwaNtunjambili eManzalathi lapho umzukulu kaHlangabeza ebusa khona.

Ngenkathi kubheduka impi yamaNgisi namaBhunu [1899-1902], isizwe sakwaNgcolosi ngaphansi kukaHlangabeza sacindezelwa kakhulu ngabaphathi bezempi yamaNgisi ukuthi sikhiphe amadoda ayezohamba nezinqola zempi ezazithwalela amasotsha ukudla nezinye izimpahla ezazidingeka empini.

Laba bantu bakwaNgcolosi kwakudingeka belekelele amaNgisi uma kunesidingo ekunqobeni impi yamaBhunu. Abanye babantu abathunyelwa yiNkosi uHlangabeza Bhengu mhla ziyi 14 Masingana 1902 ngoNonjanja noMagqibo.

Laba bantu banikezelwa kuMkhuzi wempi yamaNgisi owayaziwa ngokuthi ngu Officer Commanding Army Service Corps eMarizbheki yena wase ebathumela ezindaweni ababedingeka kuzo.

Kwathi mhla ziyisi 5 Ntulikazi bonke abantu abamnyama ababephoqwe ukuyosiza impi yamaNgisi badedelwa ukuba babuyele emakhaya, banikeza amawarrants esitimela ukuze bafike emakhaya bedlule eMgungundlovana. Imali ababeyiholelwa ngopondo ababili ngenyanga. Bonke abazange bakhokhelwe ngenyanga yesithupha yokugcina besemsebenzini.

Bathenjiswa ukuthi imininingwane yayizothunyelwa komantshi babo ukuze bakhokhelwe imali ababekweletwa yona kodwa lokhu akuzange kwenzeke.

Ubuhlakani bukaMepho nendawo yabakwaNgcolosi

Indawo yabakwaNgcolosi yagudla umfula iNzalathi yehla njalo kwaNtunjambili yaze yayofinyelela oThukela. Kukhona abathi abantu bakwaLuthuli bavela kwabakwaNgcolosi kodwa abanye bayakuphika lokho.

Siyaz i ukuthi ngemuva kokuthi iNgonyama uShaka ithumele uNongila Mabaso owayeyinhloli enkulu yezwe eMpumalanga Koloni, wabuya nokuthi kwakuliwa abelungu behlasela amaXhosa. Ngakho-ke uShaka wazilungiselela ukuthi impi yabelungu ithi iqambe ifinyelela kwaZulu bese ilindiwe. Ngakho-ke wahlanganisa izizwe zamaZulu. Isizwe sakwaNgcolosi esasibuswa nguMepho naso sazimbandakanya nokugcwele nokuhlanganiswa kwezizwe.

Ngaleso sikhathi abakwaNgcobo nabo base beyingxenye kaZulu ohlangene kumbandakanya bakwaMkhize bakaZihlandlo.

UNgoza kaMkhubukeli Mthembu yena wase ebalekile waphikelela eMampondweni lapho afika abulawelwa khona indlalifa yakhe yabuya yazokhonza kwaZulu.

Enye ingxenye yabakwaNgcolosi ngaphansi kukaJali yona yaphikelela phesheya koMzimvubu nabakwaXesibe nabakwaThusi. Ngakho-ke abakwaJali nabakwaBhengu abaganani. UJali wavela ngoba bayingxenye eyajabha yadangala ngenxa yezimo ezazinzima kubhekenwe nazo.

Isizwe sakwaNgcolosi ngaphansi kukaMepho asizange sihlaselwe ngalobo buhlakani bakhe bokuvuma ukuthi sizimbandakanye ngokugcwele noholo IweNgonyama yamaZulu saze sakhipha ngisho izinkomo zokukhonza eNgonyameni uShaka.

Okokuqala okumele sikulungise wukuthi uQwabe akaze aphume kwaMnguni.Kukhona emlandweni oQwabe ababili, owokuqala kanye nowesibili. Ngokunjalo naboGumede babili. Ngicabanga-ke ukuthi we a ubuza ngoQwabe wesibili ozalwa nguMalandela kaLuzumane kaMnguni. Uma sebrfike oThukela, lwangenisa abanye nasals ngaphesheya, bahlukana kanjaloke. Ekunqotshweni kukaPhakathwayo nguShaka, kwaba nombango esizweni phakathi kwendodana kaPhakathwayo kanyr naboyise abancane.

Ekugcineni uShaka wabeka uNqetho kaKhondlo, owabe engumnaka Phakathwayo kodwa ezalwa endlini encane. Lutheran ekukhathameni kukaShaka, uNqetho wanqaba ukukhonza kuDingane. Wafuduka njalo elibangise eMampondweni. UDingane wamlandela ngempi eyahlangana amahlandla amathathu, kuwona wonke uDingane ubeshaywa abhulelwe amahlahla.

Enye impi abatholane kuyo kwanzima, bekukwaNgcolosi ngakwaNyuswa. Nakalokhu kunendawo lapho okuthiwa kukwaNqetho eqanjwe ngalo igama laleqhawe. Umlando made mfethu, kodwa ngizoma lapho ngoba ngiyethemba ukuthi kukhona osukucoshile. Uhambo lukaNqetho nalo lwalunezigigaba eziningi esobuye sikhuluma ngazo.

UQwabe-N engiphuma kuye mina, bayinzalo kaMteli kaPhakathwayo. UMtheli uzale uNgcukuca hyena ozale uNdunge. UNdunge uzale Stephen noShiyane. UShiyane wazala uNhlanhleni(Fortunatus). History of Tshonga people

These people were so named mainly because of their geographical location and dialects. Though they spoke different dialects, the language and cultural practices were largely the same. Hence they constituted a single cultural and linguistic community. It is for this reason that when one reads Vutlharhi bya Vatsonga (a collection of Tsonga proverbs) by Junod, it is difficult to separate proverbs along the different dialects!!!!

For over centuries Tsonga have assimilated other cultural groups who came to live with them in the South East Africa region. The following clans are a case in point:

(a) Shona

(i)Tembe-Karanga (Kalanga)- were in Delagoa Bay region by 1554

(ii) Baloyi(Valoyi) –Rozvi (Lozwi) – they were already in the N’walungu region during the time of the Dutch occupation of the Delagoa Bay (1721-31). Some Hlengwe oral traditions claimed that the Hlengwe were actually the ones who converted the Valoyi from Rozvi (Lozwi) into Tsonga in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. This probably happened after the death of the powerful king of Rozvi, Changameri Dombo in 1696.

(b) Shiburi (Xivuri) were Sotho. They entered Mozambique as conquerors from the Mpumalanga lowveld in the 1700s as separate groups, but they organised themselves into a Shiburi (Xivuri) chiefdom.

(c) Manganyi were Nguni who lived in Kwa-Magoda in Kwa-Zulu Natal

(d) Mabunda and Maswanganyi were part of the Mazibuko (Nguni) clan in KwaZulu Natal.

(e) Gaza-Ngoni-Shangaan: several Nguni clans who left with Soshangane to Mozambique from 1821 abandoned their Nguni language and became Tsonga speaking

(f) Chopi- several Chopi people have joined the Maluleke clan.

(g) Ndau- several Ndau clans like Mashaba (Maxava or Machava), Sithole, Moyana, Miyambu, Simango are now part of the Tsonga.

(h) Nkuna- came from Ngome in KZN.

It must be understood that although the Tsonga assimilated foreign cultural elements, it does not follow that the people are merely a hybrid of the assimilated groups mentioned above. In fact, the Tsonga have for centuries been identified as a cultural and linguistic group sufficiently different from other neighbouring cultural groups like the Tonga of Inhambane, The Zulu (Nguni or Ngoni) and the Karanga and the Sotho in South East Africa.
