Ndebele of Musi

The Ndebele are a Nguni people, they originate from Nguniland which was an area South East of Afrika which stretched from encompassed parts of Present day KZN, Swaziland and Eastern Transvaal. They first travelled with Abakwa Zelemu (AmaBhaca) to Ubombo Mountains and later broke away and entered the Transvaal. Their first known chief was Mafana. They proceeded to present day Mohlakeng (Mhlangeni) near Randfontein and continued to a place called Kwa-Mnyamana near Pretoria under the leadership of King Musi. After the death of Musi they split into two tribes Ndzundza and Manala due to succession dispute. Ndzundza and Manala were the sons of Musi Mhlanga.
Masombuka settled with the Ndzundza group while Mthombeni and Sibasa headed north with their followers. Sibasa later joined the be-Venda. Mrhwaduba joined the Pedi near Turfloop in Limpopo.
Dlomu went back to KZN, Mphafudi and Litjha ended with the South Sotho in Lesotho and Free State.
All the above were sons of Musi of Mhlanga.

The Ndzundza group moved past Middleburg and settled at Roosenekal (Kwasimkhulu) The Manala group returned to Kwamnyamana after the truce they made with the Ndzundza group near Loskop Dam Middleburg at a place called Konoqolo/Koqoli.
When Ndzundza died his son Mrhetja took over, and when Manal died his son Silamba took over kingship.
Later regents ruled the Ndzundza, those were Siboko, Somdeyi and Mabhoko.
Mabhoko died in 1865 and Masilela took over followed by Soqaleni who ruled until 1873, followed by Xobongo up to 1879, who was succeeded by Nyabela.

In the 1980’s the Musi Ndebele were given the land in the north-east of Pretoria near Groblersdal and Marblehall (Siyabuswa) as their semi-independent homeland. The youth and the Ndzundza royal house resisted apartheid independence. That place was called Kwandebele and is now under Mpumalanga province of the Republic of South Africa.
The language that these Ndebele spoke was a mixture of Nguni, Pedi and Afrikaans. In the 1980’s efforts were made to preserve a purer form of Ndebele and it has been very successful becaus now they speak pure undiluted Ndebela language which is also taught at schools. Previously they were taugth in Pedi and Zulu languages.

  1. HELLO , NAME IS KLAAS RADINGWANA IN LIMPOPO PROVINCE JANE FURSE (SEKHUKHUNE). I AM LOOKING FOR MY FATHER ELVIS MAHLANGU WHO WAS STAYING IN BENONI EARLY 1974. MY TOLD ME THAT ELVIS WAS A HAWKER AND HE WAS SPENDING MUCH OF HIS TIME IN A FACTORY CALLED MAPHEPHENG/PAPER FACTORY.
    I WENT TO BENONI TO ASK SOME OF THE PEOPLE THAT ARE STILL WORKING UNDER THAT FACTORY BUT NO KNOWS HIM,BUT ONE OLD MAN TOLD ME THAT HE WAS FROM EITHER BUSHBUCKRIDGE OR NELSPRUIT. PLEASE HELP ME FIND MY FATHER, I WAS BORN IN 1975 AND MY MOTHER ‘S NAME IS ROSINA RADINGWANA

        It will be hard to locate him if he was a hawker. A hawker doesn’t have a stable place or he doesn’t work for any company that we can go ask for his whereabouts. I have some relatives from Lydenburg, Mashishing, Dullstroom, Belfast and the surrounding places. Most of them work in Benoni, Boksberg, Kepmton Park etc. You won’t very wrong if you can befriend yourself with Mahlangus from these places but not limited to Stuttgart, Middlebury etc. Those Mahangus, Skosanas, Ntulis etc are fond of Benoni – I promise you.

    what i know kuthi this surname family history its one of the oldest surname in history because Mthombeni was born by King Musi by the first wife who first gave birth to Manala. so Skhosana was the first born son of the king but He couldn”t rule bcause he wass born bythe second wife {skhosana and Masombuka}
    And we are the of of the few dominating surname in history because we are every where at kzn Mthombeni u “lwandle” at Venda Mthombeni rules even today ,Tsonga nation as Chief,, Pedi as Mthombeni {Kekana} ,swaziland and Nelspruit Mthombeni is a ruler the, as{Magagula}.
    Even in zimbabwe sikhona kwabulawayo as chiefs and amoungs others sino Mthombeni Undiyase no_Siluma. so where Mthombeni is not a chief its hearin Ndebele nation we his kingdom comes from, its so said but history remain thina siphuma ku King Musi by his first wife.

      Firstly we need to understand that the name Bulawayo originated from King Shaka’s kraal at Kwabulawayo at this area ,you find the ruler Prince Sam Zulu the brother to Paramount King Goodwill Zwelithini.
      This is the area district where you will find Nandi’s grave,Nzuza’s grave,Mandawe cross,a lonely soldier’s tomb and more.
      Creating more fictional is wasting generations to come.
