Why are Zulus called Zulus?

The name “Zulu” is derived from the name of the clan’s founder, Zulu, who was a legendary figure in Zulu history. The term “Zulu” itself means “heaven” in the Zulu language, and it reflects the cultural identity and heritage of the Zulu people. Over time, the Zulu became known for their military prowess and social organization, particularly under the leadership of Shaka Zulu [[2]](https://www.sahistory.org.za/people/shaka-zulu)[[3]](https://www.britannica.com/biography/Shaka-Zulu-chief).
