Chief Bokweni Mamba, 1920s

Born in 1876 and dies in 1940, Chief Bokweni Mamba was the son of Matja I and chief of the Mamba clan who dominated southeast Swaziland at the start of the colonial era in the 1880s.

At that time they celebrated their own Incwala, the ceremony of kingship. However concessionaires needed one king and one authority to validate their concessions and the British only recognised one king, of the iNkhosi Dlamini clan. The Mambas then gradually lost power. Chief Bokweni accepted the situation with public grace and died a respected man in 1940 with 46 wives and about 5000 followers. In the photo he is wearing a necklace of lion claws, probably from an animal that he had killed himself, with a spear.

Lobengula kaMzilikazi

This is a very rare picture of king Lobengula kaMzilikazi, the son of Mzilikazi who was Shaka Zulu’s right-hand man.

Lobengula took the reigns of the now Zimbabwen Ndebele people. His father ran away from the Zulu Kingdom all the way to the land now called Zimbabwe.
This piece of history alone, makes us realise that, we Africans are one people.

According to our sources, this is the only portrayal of king Shaka Zulu that survived history, however we could not get sufficient information to confirm its degree of his real life resemblance.

Uma sikhuluma ngempi yaseSandlwana kudingeka sazi ukuthi inhlosonqangi yabahlaseli kwakungukuqeda uMbuso woBukhosi bukaZulu owawusasele eNyakatho yoThukela noMzinyathi, ngaphansi kweNgonyama uCetshwayo eyaqala ukubusa kusukela ngowe-1872 kuya kowe-1879.

Ukuhlasela uMbuso wamaNgisi wakwenza ngokusebenzisa amasu kangqondongqondo wezempi eChina, uSun Tzu, oncwadi yakhe yashicilelwa ngowama-400 singakaFiki isiKhathi sikaKrestu [BCE]. Lokhu kwenzeka eNcome, eNdondakusuka nakhona eSandlwana lapho impi kaZulu yafika ntambama mhla zingama-21 kuMasingana 1879, kuzoliwa ngakusasa ekuseni. Uyagcizelela uSun Tzu ukuthi ukuze kunqotshwe isitha umhlaseli kudingeka abe nolwazi olugcwele ngesimo sezempi sesitha asihlaselayo kodwa ululeka ngokuthi: “the fore knowledge cannot be elicited from spirits nor from the gods nor by inductive thinking; nor by deductive calculations. It can only be obtained from men who have knowledge on the enemy’s situation.” ulwazi lwesimo sezempi sesitha lungavela kuphela ngezinhloli zabantu bendawo abasaziyo isimo sendawo yabo.

Ngakho-ke iNgilandi yayikwazi konke lokhu ngezinhloli zayo. Yanquma ukuthi kwesekwe uMbuyazwe. Lokhu kuzimbandakanya kweNgilandi ukubhuqa uMbuso kaZulu eNdondakusuka kuyavela nasezibongweni zayo iNgonyama uCetshwayo nxa kuthiwa: “uHlamvana bhul’ umlilo eNdulinde, ubaswe ngabamhlophe abelungui ubaswe nguMantshonga uJ. Kwahanjwa kusukwa oNdini indlela yedlula lapho sekuyiNyuvesi yasoNgoye yedlula ngenhla kwedolobha laseSikhawini kwathi lapho okuthiwa kuseSikhawini Beach khona yathathwa ngumkhumbi wezempi yayiswa ekudingisweni e-Oude Moulen eKapa.
