The Mangwiro clan originates from Hwedza. They are of the Soko/Shoko/Gudo/Ncube/Mukanya totem.
Some of them migrated to Masvingo where they bought farms around Mushawasha Central, in the southern part of Masvingo province.
One of the oldest member who migrated from Hwedza around 1890s was the great Horofani who was later renamed Elkana/Erikana, by the Dutch missionaries. He married a woman from the Charumbira royal family with whom he had 3 sons and several daughters.
His sons were Samuel, Ishmael and Lucus. Some of his brothers with whom he migrated from Hwedza later settled around Bikita area in Masvingo province and started using different surnames such as Njaya and Mungoma.
