Origins of Mabotja

Mabotja Family is From Ga-Matlala Dynasty. The people in Ga-Matlala Dynasty say the surname was initially called ‘Mabotha’. It means Money in Tswana and Pedi, they were of Royal Descent, Son of Seladi Matlala, One of the Last Kings of Ga-Matlala. They settled in Moletjie Under Moloto. They married into the Manamela Family, of which they still keep ties today. They were very wealthy in the olden days, one of the examples of Black Excellence.
