Kwazulu was the only province that celebrated Shaka’s Day on September 26. The dawn of democracy provided an opportunity to negotiate what was new and which was going, uMntwana Mangosuthu Buthelezi negotiated for Shaka’s day to remain, the challenge was that not all in South Africa recognised Shaka as leader or someone worth celebrating, as a compromise the day was called Heritage Day.
Heritage Day’s founding/adoption and naming is a result of a compromise to continue honoring the lagacy of iNkosi YakwaZulu uShaka.
