Mbedzi people originate from somewhere in central Africa, it might be DRC, or somewhere else because the king under which the clan falls rulled the whole current SADC countries.
It was a large kingdom. The clan name falls under the Vhangona people, the original Venda speaking people of Southern Africa. They were the first people to arrive in Southern Africa before other Bantu people came and established their own kingdom. The name Mbedzi is associated with water, it may mean a lake or a body of water. They are the descendants of king Shiriyadenga.
There are 18 more sister clans to the Mbedzi clan all of which would have been the names of Shiriyadenga’s various sons. This is based on verbal accounts from family members as well as history of Vha Venda people as described by Mr Thirabeli Rakhadani. One of the kingdom’s historian’s and a son of one of the sister clans to Mbedzi clan.
