Bhebhe surname is originating from South Africa, particularly concentrated in eShowe in KwaZulu. They are originally Mhlongo. However, over time some surnames evolve and links emanating from intercultural relationships from marriages and so forth. The primary surname where it originates from is Mhlongo.
They came as a separate entity but falling under the umbrella of Mhlongo. For example, Magwaza surname, Dlomo surname etc, they originate from Mhlongo. Another significant aspect that should be observed is, during the times of displacement by king Shaka, some moved northwards.
Mzilikazi kaMashobana, they moved across Limpopo river and finally settled in Zimbabwe. That should not confuse you which is why their clan names are exactly the same as Mhlongo. Some also were displaced to settle in Eastern Cape as they were hiding from Shaka. Hence, they became amaBhaca. These people are not Xhosa although they may speak Xhosa but their origins is from KwaZulu.
